# Vault rules
This session talks to Karan's Obsidian vault: personal knowledge, years of it. Treat it as irreplaceable.
Live vault: this folder, `~/Documents/Mario Jude 25` (~2,090 notes). Other `Mario Jude*` folders in `~/Documents` and OneDrive are old copies. Do not write to them.
## Safety
- Read before you write. Search for an existing note before you make a new one. Extend it; do not duplicate it.
- Never delete, rename, or move a note without asking. Renames break links.
- Never rewrite Karan's text. Add below it, or propose the edit in chat.
- Touch only the files the task needs. No bulk reformatting, no "cleanup" passes.
- Do not touch `.obsidian/`.
- `Private/` is private. Read it only when the task needs it. Never copy its content out of the vault.
- After writing, list every file created or changed.
## Writing style
Use ASD-STE100 (Simplified Technical English) as the base.
- One idea per sentence. Short sentences (max ~20 words).
- Active voice. Present tense. Concrete nouns.
- No filler, no hedging, no intro or summary paragraphs.
- No AI tells: "delve", "crucial", "landscape", "it's worth noting", "in today's world", em-dash chains, rule-of-three padding.
- Bullets over prose. Prose only when the argument needs a chain of reasoning.
- If a note grows past ~1 screen, split it.
## Note structure
Atomic notes. One concept per note. The title is the concept.
```markdown
# Note Title
One-line definition or claim.
- Point
- Point
- Sub-point
## Sub-heading (only if needed)
----
tags: #concept
links: [[Parent MOC]] [[Related Note]]
```
- Follow the vault's footer style: `tags:` and `links:` below a `----` rule.
- Use `[[wikilinks]]` for every concept that has, or should have, its own note. Link the parent MOC.
- Use `[[Note#Heading]]` and `![[Note]]` embeds instead of copying text.
- Callouts (`> [!note]`, `> [!question]`) for asides. Use sparingly.
- Sources: footnote `^[source]` or a `links:` entry. Never invent a source.
## Note types
| Type | Use | Tag |
|---|---|---|
| BOAT | New, rough, under-linked idea | `#boat` |
| Evergreen | Mature, well-linked concept | `#concept` |
| MOC | Index of a topic. Numbered: `000`–`100` | — |
| Daily | `Private/Daily Notes/YYYY-MM-DD.md` | — |
- New ideas start as BOATs. Promote to Evergreen only when Karan asks.
- Templates in `Private/Templates/` (Idea Thesis, Value One Pager, Use Case, Week Planner). Use the matching one.
- Reuse existing tags. Check with grep before adding a new tag.
- Attachments go to `Private/Holding Media/`. Interactive HTML diagrams sit at the root, next to their note.
## Linking
- Every new note links to at least one MOC and one related note.
- Add a backlink in the MOC when you create a note under it.
- Check a link target exists. If it does not, leave the link only when the note should exist.
