#### Fission
- Widely used method in nuclear power plants
- Involves splitting atomic nuclei, like uranium-235 or plutonium-239.
- Atomic nuclei are bombarded with neutrons, becoming unstable and splitting into smaller nuclei. Releases a large amount of energy.
- Heat generated by fission warms a cooling agent. Cooling agent can be water, liquid metal, or molten salt.
- Heated cooling agent produces steam. Steam turns turbines to generate electricity.
